Six days from Bengaluru through a royal city and two hill stations: Mysore Palace, the coffee estates of Coorg and the tea slopes of Ooty.
An easy loop through the best of the southern hills. Mysore brings the palace of the Wodeyar kings; Coorg, the coffee and pepper estates of the Kodagu hills; and Ooty, the Nilgiris at over 2,200 m, reached by a road through the Bandipur and Mudumalai tiger reserves.
You travel in a private air-conditioned car from Bengaluru and back. Breakfast is included daily, with dinner as well at the estate stay in Coorg.
Pick-up from Bengaluru and a drive of about three hours (150 km). On the way see Tipu Sultan's summer palace at Srirangapatna. Visit Mysore Palace in the afternoon and the musical fountain at Brindavan Gardens after dark.
Drive up Chamundi Hill for the temple and the monolithic Nandi. Continue to Coorg (120 km, about three hours), stopping at the Namdroling monastery in Bylakuppe, home to three gilded Buddha statues 18 m tall.
Walk the estate with a planter to see coffee, pepper and cardamom growing together. Visit Abbey Falls, the Dubare elephant camp on the Kaveri and the sunset viewpoint at Raja's Seat in Madikeri.
A long, scenic day (250 km, about seven hours) through Bandipur and Mudumalai, where elephants, deer and peacocks are often seen from the road, and up the hairpin bends to Ooty.
Visit the Government Botanical Gardens, Ooty Lake and Doddabetta, the highest peak in the Nilgiris at 2,637 m. Drive to Coonoor for a tea factory visit and Sim's Park, or ride the toy train between the two towns.
Drive back to Bengaluru (270 km, about seven hours). A drop at Coimbatore airport (85 km, about three hours) is possible instead.
