The complete Char Dham Yatra in twelve days with a group and a tour manager: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, starting and ending in Haridwar.
The four shrines are visited in the traditional order, from west to east. The route is planned with two nights at each base so that darshan days are not travel days, and with a night at Kedarnath itself so the evening and morning aarti can both be attended.
A tour manager travels with the group from Haridwar. Yatra registration is done for you, vegetarian meals are served at every stop and the vehicle carries a first-aid kit and oxygen.
Reach Haridwar by afternoon and meet your tour manager at the hotel. Attend the evening Ganga aarti at Har Ki Pauri, followed by a briefing on the yatra.
Drive through Dehradun and past Kempty Falls near Mussoorie to Barkot in the Yamuna valley (210 km, about seven hours).
Drive to Janki Chatti (45 km) and walk six kilometres up to Yamunotri, at 3,290 m; ponies and palkis are available. Bathe in the hot spring of Surya Kund, have darshan of Yamuna Devi and return to Barkot.
A shorter drive (100 km, about four hours) to Uttarkashi on the Bhagirathi. Visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in the evening.
Leave early for Gangotri (100 km each way), at 3,415 m, through Harsil and its apple orchards. Take a dip at the ghat, have darshan of Ganga Maiya and return to Uttarkashi.
A long day across to the Mandakini valley (220 km, about nine hours) past Tehri Lake. Reach Guptkashi and collect what you need for the Kedarnath trek.
Drive to Sonprayag, take the local jeep to Gaurikund and start the 16 km trek to Kedarnath, at 3,583 m. Those flying by helicopter leave from Phata or Sersi. Attend the evening aarti at the temple.
Early morning darshan, when the temple is quietest, then walk or fly back down and return to Guptkashi to rest.
Drive via Chopta and Joshimath to Badrinath, at 3,133 m (190 km, about seven hours). Bathe at Tapt Kund and have darshan of Badri Vishal in the evening.
Morning darshan and a visit to Mana village, Vyas Gufa and Bhim Pul. Drive down through Joshimath to Rudraprayag, where the Alaknanda meets the Mandakini (160 km, about six hours).
Stop at Devprayag, where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda join to become the Ganga, and at Ram Jhula in Rishikesh. Reach Haridwar by evening (165 km, about six hours).
Breakfast and check-out. The yatra ends at the hotel in Haridwar.
