Four days in the Garhwal foothills: a night in Mussoorie, then two by the Ganga in Rishikesh with white-water rafting and the evening aarti.
A short break that fits a long weekend. It begins in Mussoorie, the "queen of the hills" above Dehradun, and comes down to Rishikesh, where the Ganga leaves the mountains.
The package includes a 16 km rafting run from Shivpuri with a certified guide, a riverside hotel in Rishikesh and a private car from Dehradun airport or station. On the way back there is time for Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar.
Pick-up from Dehradun airport or railway station and a drive of about one and a half hours (35 km from the city) up to Mussoorie, at 2,000 m. Walk the Mall Road to Gun Hill for the view of the Doon valley and, on clear days, the snow peaks.
Morning at Lal Tibba, the highest point in Mussoorie, and Company Garden. Drive down past Kempty Falls to Rishikesh (75 km, about three hours). Attend the Ganga aarti in the evening.
Drive up to Shivpuri and raft 16 km back down through rapids named Roller Coaster, Golf Course and Club House (about two and a half hours on the water). In the afternoon cross Ram Jhula, visit the Beatles Ashram and try the cafes above the river.
Drive to Haridwar (25 km) for a dip and darshan at Har Ki Pauri, then drop at Haridwar station or Dehradun airport.
