An eight-day group tour of Saurashtra: the temples of Dwarka and Somnath on the Arabian Sea, Gandhi's birthplace at Porbandar and a lion safari in Gir.
The Saurashtra peninsula holds two of the most revered temples in India and the only wild lions outside Africa. This coach tour links them in a loop from Ahmedabad, with a tour manager and all meals included.
The route breaks the long first drive at Jamnagar, gives two nights to Dwarka for Bet Dwarka and Nageshwar, and ends with a jeep safari in Gir National Park.
Arrive by 1 pm. In the afternoon visit Sabarmati Ashram, Gandhi's home from 1917 to 1930, and the five-storey Adalaj stepwell. Welcome dinner with a Gujarati thali.
Drive to Jamnagar (310 km, about six hours). Evening at Lakhota Lake and the Bala Hanuman Temple, known for its non-stop chanting since 1964.
A short drive to Dwarka (150 km, about three hours). Evening darshan and aarti at Dwarkadhish Temple, whose five-storey spire stands above the Gomti river mouth.
Cross the Sudarshan Setu to Bet Dwarka, believed to be Krishna's home. Return via Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, Gopi Talav and Rukmini Temple. Sunset at Dwarka beach.
Drive down the coast (235 km, about five hours). Stop in Porbandar at Kirti Mandir, where Gandhi was born, and at Sudama Temple. Evening aarti at Somnath Temple, followed by the sound and light show.
Morning visit to Triveni Sangam and Bhalka Tirth. Drive to Sasan Gir (45 km) and take the afternoon jeep safari in the national park, where about 670 Asiatic lions live alongside leopards, sambar and nilgai.
Return to Ahmedabad (370 km, about seven hours) with a lunch stop near Rajkot. Evening free for shopping at Law Garden.
Breakfast and transfer to Ahmedabad airport or railway station.
